I love when professional locker room fights are reported in the media. It’s intriguing and above all — honest.
When those skirmishes take place in the locker room of a World Series team, it’s even better.
Reportedly, the Philadelphia Phillies’ Cole Hamels and Brett Myers shared an unpleasant exchange following Monday’s Game 5 win by the Phillies.
Myers is quoted as saying to Hamels: “What are you doing here? I thought you quit.”
Hamels replies with an expletive, probably “eff off” or better yet — “eff you.”
Hamels is pulled out of the locker room,
The team is saying publicly that it was all a misunderstanding. They’d say anything to keep winning games. After all, the Phillies still trail the Yankees, three-games-to-two.
Hamels told reporters after his Game 2 loss: “I can’t wait for [the season] to end. It’s been mentally draining. At year end, you just can’t wait for a fresh start.”
The comments confused everyone on his team and apparently angered some.
The hot-headed Myers took put action into words after the Phils won Game 5 and confronted Hamels, who reacted like a punk.
In the end, the ploy probably will not work. The Yankees are still going to win this World Series. Ugh.
