Case for Blyleven as HOFer

Bert Blyleven, who spent the final three seasons of his career as an Angels player, has long deserved induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

A recent ESPN.com article by writer Jim Caple here details numerous reasons why Blyleven should get in this year. It’s well-written and draws an exceptional comparison between Blyleven, who never won a Cy Young Award, and Zach Greinke, the 2009 AL Cy Young winner.

Blyleven’s stats speak for themselves — 22 seasons, 3.31 career ERA in the American League — but what will forever set him apart, in my mind, was his devastating curve ball. Just nasty.

But not as nasty as his wagering or foul mouth.
