Saturday Morning Shuffle

A collection of short poems inspired by AYSO soccer.

Grass blades taller than they should be
How can I tell?
I’m doing the Saturday morning shuffle
Hungover from a late night
All football, no 40s
Though I could drink one
I’m not that far from my forties

Tell a kid he’s great and he thinks it
Look at a kid wrong he’ll flip in a minute
Smile but don’t laugh
It’s not that all that much fun

The kids wear orange jerseys
They wore out some rag-tag outfit 5-0 last week
They call themselves the Tigers
